5 Reasons why working out in the morning is better

By Angela Young

Here we offer 5 reasons why working out in the morning is better. You can find the time in the morning to get a little cardio in without overdoing it or leaving you in an afternoon slump. Some quick tips also help you with the transition so you don't feel sleep deprived or wake up other family members.

1. Mentally Tackle Your Day

When you take the time to work out in the morning you get endorphins flowing first thing and this perks you up leaving you feeling confidence and positive. This allows you to tackle your day right from the start without a negative mood for your morning. This positive energy can extend to your staff and the people around you bringing a more positive overall work environment and high productive levels throughout your work place.

2. More Committed

It's been shown that those who work out in the mornings are more committed to their workouts. They tend to cancel on trainers less and make the time to workout no matter what the schedule for the day is. You can do this by getting up just a little bit earlier and hitting the gym or heading out for a run. Even if you have a treadmill or piece of exercise equipment, jump on and watch the morning news.

3. Better Eating Habits

When you start your day with healthy movement you tend to make better food choices throughout the day. This also means you're more likely to keep your energy throughout the day and feel less inclined to get it through sugar, carbs and excessive levels of caffeine.

4. Better Sleep

Studies have shown that when you workout in the morning you sleep better at night. Of course, better sleep leads to better critical thinking and overall brain function. Those who workout in the afternoon and evenings tend to have a harder time falling asleep.

5. Drop Weight Faster

When you workout in the morning you can lose more weight and faster. This is because working out in the more helps curb cravings and a small calorie boost in the morning right after you workout is a great way to satisfy morning hunger.

Tips:

  • Get up just 15 minutes earlier than usual and you can usually squeeze 30 minutes of cardio out of it.
  • Lay out workout clothes the night before to save time and avoid getting frustrated finding something in the morning.
  • Have a little snack before you work out for energy.
  • Warm up slowly (5-10 minutes) to allow your body to warm up and avoid injury.
  • Choose an activity you like and you're more likely to stick with it.

These 5 reasons why working out in the morning is better show you that you can fit in a little cardio or strength in the morning to start your day right. If you have a tough time shifting your workouts to the morning, try a slow transition. Get up just 10 minutes before your normal time and get a little cardio in. After about a week, add 5-10 minutes and so on until you get to your goal workout time. If you don't feel like you can get an entire workout in during the morning hours, add a walk in during lunch to boost your cardio for the day without overdoing it.

Remember getting physical activity in is more important than not getting in activity at all. Don't be deterred and get your work out in no matter what time of day you can. Work with your trainer to put together something that gets you going instead of leaving you spent.
